The Festival

From Ship to Shore and land to sea, Waterford will be awash with colourful and vibrant Parades & activities during The Tall Ships Races 2011.

An explosion of colour representing the sailing nations of the world will take to the streets of Waterford at 3pm on Friday 1st July 2011.  Starting at the Bus Station on The Quay, The Crews Parade will feature some 1,500 Tall Ships crew members, who will make their way through the streets in song and dance, filling the air with fun and excitement.

One of the most beautiful sights will be the departure of the majestic Tall Ships as they begin their return journey back down the River Suir to Dunmore East, for the Parade of Sail and official start of The Tall Ships Races 2011 The ships will leave Waterford city from 7am on the morning of Sunday, 3rd July, congregating off Dunmore East between 8.30am and 10am (subject to weather).

After two years of preparations involving an estimated 13,760 hours of voluntary effort, Waterford successfully hosted The Tall Ships Races 2011 from June 30-July 3.
It’s estimated that 500,000 people enjoyed the spectacle in the city and along the Suir Estuary. To all those individuals and organisations that made this huge international event possible and to the people of Waterford who embraced the occasion brilliantly – thank you.
